History

Metamora State Bank first opened its doors in Metamora, Ohio, on July 1, 1944. Originally owned and operated by a husband and wife team with a financial base of only $1.5 million, the bank now has branches in Metamora, Sylvania and Maumee, a staff of 20 employees, and assets in excess of $82 million. We proudly celebrated our 75th anniversary year in 2019.

Through the years, Metamora State Bank has seen big changes in facilities as well as operations. On February 14, 2019, we expanded our vision by opening a third branch on Dussel Drive in Maumee, Ohio. Committed to growth in 1995 our second branch was opened at the corner of Centennial Road and Sylvania-Metamora Road in Sylvania. The branches retain our small town bank image and provides the level of customer service that has kept the bank thriving for more than 75 years. The original Metamora State Bank branch was renovated in the spring of 2001, and the Sylvania Banking Center was remodeled in 2014.

Hand-processed transactions were typical when the bank opened in 1944. Today, sophisticated computer systems perform daily operations for both bank offices, and customers now enjoy the convenience of complete online banking via the website. Introduced in 2001, the site re-launched in July 2014, with a new design and improved functionality. The new site is optimized for convenient use on all mobile devices. Telebanc, a 24-hour information line, was introduced in 2009.

The products offered by the bank have changed through the years as well. In addition to traditional checking and savings accounts, Metamora State Bank offers MSB Choice Checking and BusinessPlus Checking, as well as Certificates of Deposit and Individual Retirement Accounts. We invite you to call us for more information on these accounts and our competitive rates. We frequently offer Certificate of Deposit Rate Specials as well.

Mission

MSB remains true to our mission to provide a safe, secure, competitive source of financial services to the residents of our market area while remaining an independent locally-owned community bank — one of only a few left in the area. What does that mean for you? At Metamora State Bank you are more than a customer — you are a friend. Our employees will get to know you on a first-name basis. They look forward to your bank visit and want to hear about your family and friends. Whether you are looking for a mortgage loan, a construction loan, a new vehicle, or business loan, loan decisions are made here. Our loan officers will meet directly with you to provide a win/win solution no matter what your borrowing needs. As a true community bank, we are invested in and are involved in our community.

Ownership

Metamora State Bank is presently owned by a one-bank holding company known as Metamora Bancorp, Inc., formed in 1985 to ensure its continued operation as a community bank. Currently serving on the board of directors are David Pifer (Chairman of the Board), Kathleen Fischer, James Armstrong, Jan Watkins, Constance Reichert and Joe Damman.

We’re very grateful for our community support and look forward to continuing to grow with our communities for many more years to come. If you are not presently a customer, we invite you to stop in and speak to one of our helpful representatives about how Metamora State Bank can help with your banking needs.
